Hermitage Bay resort in Antigua, which opened in spring of 2007, is already looking to add additional suites by next year, Travel Agent learned. We met with owner Andy Thesen, who told us he would like to add about five more suites in addition to the existing 25. He said initial plans would call for at least one new suite for each of the resort’s three categories.

The resort is also in the process of adding a “chill out” room and an additional treatment room to its spa. The spa currently has three treatment rooms and the fourth will be ready when the property reopens on October 7. It has been closed since September 1 for what will be annual upgrades, he says. The resort has been an instant success since opening this spring, carrying an 80-90 percent occupancy rate for the majority of its second summer of operation, Thesen says.
