Rail Line, Two Subways to Begin Service in Beijing Sunday

While conflicting reports surround China's major, international airport, the country's capital expects to begin new subway and rail line service this Sunday, the Associated Press reports. The new transit lines are expected to serve millions of passengers by the opening of the Olympics in three weeks.

The new public transport aids a strict vehicle reduction plan that goes into effect Sunday, aimed at significantly reducing Beijing's intense traffic by removing half of its 3.3 million vehicles from major roadways.

Olympic visitors will be serviced by the two subways, while the new Airport Line runs 17.5 miles from the airport to Beijing's central business district.
